Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Erik Van Uden. I live and work in Los Angeles. I work as a behavior instructor for children with autism, and I paint.
Who/what inspires you?
The ideas for the paintings are exciting, and put a fire under my ass. I really want to see what the painting will look like.
What themes do you pursue?
I'm interested in obfuscation, veils, the eternally shifting cloud that creation hides behind. One of the appeals of abstract painting is it's ability to be mysterious.
I've always been into art. My grandmother gave me painting supplies for my 21st birthday, and I haven't stopped since. Some things just stick to you.
Name some artists you would like to be compared to.
My favorite contemporary painter is Zhu Jinshi. If someone happened to compare us I don't think I would mind.
