Lorrie McClanahan

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m learning who I am through what I do.  I’m unfinished…sometimes I make paintings, sometimes photos. And lately, music. I do what I can…sometimes I attempt things I can’t. I”m curious.

Who/what inspires you?

construction sites, driving, the studio, tape, cities, mistakes, rock formations, big sky, film, interesting sounds, silence, debris, randomness, contrast, poetry, rain, talking to my daughter, web links, wine, love, the kitchen sink

What themes do you pursue?

I’ve done themes, but I resist them. Getting a degree or two seems to demand them. What I’ve noticed is, over time, similarities crop up. I do organize things by the way pieces look, but sometimes they’re years apart. So it’s like noting a recurring dream. And I freely paint over or cut up something old I find in the studio. layers, residue, change. Those could be themes.

Why art?

to find out what happens next. for the wordless buzz.

Name some artists you would like to be compared to.

a cave artist, maybe. I like the notions of anonymity, mystery, and wonder.
