Who are you and what do you do?
Matt Phillips. I am a painter, an art professor, a co-founder of TSA Gallery, and a burrito enthusiast.
What inspires you?
Loud music, great bread, Muhammad Ali, cobblers, Morandi paintings, the Quilts of Gee's Bend, and basically anything Phil Spector produced
What themes do you pursue?
Self expression found through some of the more simple, feeble, and fundamental elements of painting.
Art is a reminder that many of our most thrilling discoveries are found within the things that initially present themselves as problems.
Name some artists you would like to be compared to.
I think artists really work hard to not compare themselves to others. I would be pretty excited if someone was even talking about my work.
