Takahiro Mukai - Bubble Over

by Takahiro Mukai

Its a common sensation, the feeling of slipping into a routine or a way of being; communication is key via an exchange of objects or sounds; and so we leave the house with the lights on, traipse the underground mall in search of demons who may or may not wish to be friends; periwinkle neon glides from around the corner, just nearest the used electronics kiosk; in the crossroad beneath the opal skylight, the typically placid fountain bubbles over with soapy orbs, the new night staff having put too much cleaner in its basin.”

Returning with another cracking tape to Phinery is the prolific Takahiro Mukai, this time with “Bubble Over.” With a Mukai tape, one is to expect the perfect marriage of rigid direction and organic play, where rhythmic analogue techno percussion pulses like a vein, timbres thin and widen, taut plastics press against the packaging, and unexplained, devilish spirits float above the moving walkway that pulls the listener along. “Bubble Over” is no different, yet continues to push the craft into crunchier, more esoteric realms.
